Wood Square - Greenfields, Oldham
Bullock is working in partnership with Oldham Council and Housing 21 on the largest sheltered housing PFI scheme in the UK. The programme includes the construction of 3 new sheltered blocks; refurbishment and extension of 16 sheltered blocks, and refurbishment of 858 bungalows.
The project involved the demolition of existing bungalows and a shop to create a Category 2 sheltered scheme incorporating a block of 16 flats with communal facilities. The facilities include a drying room, guest accommodation, main lounge, Court Managers Office and kitchen. Externally we have provided a “sitting out” area, drying area, a car park for 10 vehicles and a large landscaped area.
A new lift has also been installed.
Challenges
- Sensitive consultation with the community was undertaken prior to the demolition of the shops which served local people
- Consultation was undertaken with private owners in respect of perimeter fence lines which had to be replaced
